We regret to inform you that Dale Wolfley, 56, a former offensive lineman for West Virginia University, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023. His cause of demise is currently unclear.
Wolfley was a native of Orchard Park, New York. Dale was a guard for the Mountaineers for three seasons before transferring to the center position during his senior year in 1990.
Following his graduation from West Virginia University, he began his coaching tenure as the head coach at Arizona’s Phoenix College.
In 2008, the coach returned to Morgantown to assist Bill Stewart’s staff in his role as player personnel director for the Mountaineers.
Subsequently, he held the position of coordinator for the WVU Varsity Club, an organization that fostered connections and outreach to WVU football alumni.

The abrupt and tragic passing of former offensive lineman Dale Wolfley stunned a great number of fans. He tragically passed away on Saturday evening while asleep.
One of three brothers, Wolfley, competed at the Division I level. In addition to contributing to WVU from 1981 to 1984, his elder sibling Ron also participated in ten NFL seasons.
Inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame is Ron Wolfley. Their eldest sibling Craig was a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings, and he attended Syracuse University.
All the brothers pursued professions in football broadcasting following the conclusion of their playing careers. Dale Wolfley held a variety of positions with the Mountaineer Sports Network between 2013 and 2022.
Stone and Maverick, two of Dale’s sons, were Division I football players. Stone is an assistant coach at Morgantown High School, his alma mater.

Playing football for West Virginia University, receiving an excellent education there, and welcoming fellow alumni to reunions were all memories he held dear.
