Love Is Blind season 5's Taylor breaks down 'hurtful' fight with JP over her appearance: 'There's a |

Love is supposed to be blind on Love Is Blind — it's literally in the name, after all — but the way someone looked led to the breakup of one of season 5's few remaining couples.

After only three couples get engaged in the pods (the least of any season!), they all head to Mexico for what is supposed to be a romantic vacation to get to know their new fiancés. But for Taylor and JP, the romance ends as soon as they see each other in person.

During their reveal, JP immediately grows quiet and Taylor can't get over how awkward it gets. Throughout their vacation together, Taylor becomes increasingly frustrated with having to carry every single conversation between the two of them since JP just won't talk to her. She keeps confronting JP about how awkward their relationship has become, since it clearly changed after the pods. Near the end of the trip, JP finally admits the way she looked during their reveal, specifically how much makeup she was wearing, made him think she was "fake" and that's why his behavior towards her changed.

"You had a caked up face, fake eyelashes … You presented fake stuff," JP says to her. "A lot of makeup. I had makeup all over my jacket ... Just don't wear makeup." He also tells Taylor that he thinks 99 percent of women would love to hear that. Pretty fascinating that a guy whose wardrobe consists solely of red, white, and blue star-spangled clothing is giving fashion advice to a young woman, and to no one's surprise, it does not go well. Taylor ends up spending the night in a different room and tells JP the next morning that he's not the person she fell in love with in the pods, so she gives him back the ring and leaves him in Mexico.

"I was confused because I don't know how you could just shut yourself off because of the way somebody looks when you had built such a great emotional connection beforehand," Taylor tells EW about that fight with JP. "I also don't think he was being completely transparent about everything. I think there's a deeper issue there — still don't know what it is. I plan to figure it out. But it was hurtful. He put the blame on somebody for the way they look. I took so long to get ready that day to look good for him, and then he basically told me I didn't look good."

Taylor admits that it didn't take long for her to realize their relationship was over even before it got the chance to begin, all because of JP's behavior. "It was probably day two or three where I was like, 'I just cannot do this,'" she says. "I knew that I had to move home with him, and for me, I've never lived with a guy before. That's a big deal, a big step in a relationship. I did not think him and I were ready for that. The situation wasn't getting any better. I thought it would after our conversation, but honestly it just got worse. I wasn't a 100 percent in it and I don't think he was either."

When JP finally decided to talk with Taylor about why he began treating her differently, she had already made up her mind to leave. His decision to blame her appearance made it that much easier to end things.

"I don't think moving home with him would've fixed anything," she says. "Probably would've driven us to really bad terms. So I think I made the right decision. And for me, those type of things that were going to come after the living together, the bachelorette party, the marriage, all of that, I want to do it one time with the right person. Although I loved him and cared about him, it didn't feel 100 percent right, so I have no regrets."
