Although Brown was born in Columbus, Ohio, he lived some of his formative years abroad. He thrived in basketball and football while attending Würzburg American High School in Würzburg, Germany, where he graduated in 1988.
Brown transferred to the University of San Diego after spending two years learning and playing basketball at Mesa Community College. There, he played two seasons of collegiate basketball for the San Diego Toreros and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1992.
Gregg Popovich appointed Brown as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs in 2000.
Additionally, he served as the team’s head coach for the Spurs’ summer league squads in Salt Lake City and Boston. While Brown was a member of the Spurs’ coaching staff in 2003, they won the NBA title.
