Memphis pastor arrested for identity theft
Memphis pastor Steven Flockhart has been charged for identity theft. The pastor of 901 Church was arrested on Thursday on charges of identity theft and theft of merchandise between $2,500 and $10,000.
The incident reportedly occurred three years ago when Flockhart and a victim, who was a church member, agreed to open a joint credit card for their church, as reported by Action News S5. The victim said Flockhart called the victim and asked for his personal information in order to open the account.
He recently found an open credit card through PayPal that had a nearly $6,500 unpaid bill. Court documents say the victim confronted Flockhart about the credit card and Flockhart admitted to opening the account even though the victim told Flockhart he did not have permission to open the account.
Steven Flockhart on American Idol
Steven Flockhart, known as Stevie, was on American Idol years ago. He oversees two 901 Church locations in Millington and Bartlett, but his singing career started when he auditioned for a boy band in 2001.
When American Idol had auditions in Atlanta, Georgia, Flockhart was accepted as one of 11 who could go to Hollywood. He was a contestant when Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler were judges, from 2011 to 2012.
When there was a group round consisting of 50 people, Flockhart forgot the words to his song and was sent home. He later went back to audition again, this time in New York, and planned to win the show.
Flockhart’s time on The Voice
He planned to have “money and fame” so he could win American Idol and The Voice, but decided to turn his car around on the way to the airport after experiencing his calling to plant a church.
Flockhart was heavily involved in the music industry for about 12 years. His website states that in 2012, he briefly appeared on American Idol and was then selected as a contestant on The Voice.
His bio says: “God made it clear he was supposed to walk away from what could have been a prominent music career. He was supposed to Pastor and Lead people to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
